Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Swiis International Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2045.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2021
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations
Swiis International Limited (Swiis) has retrospectively collated data to form a baseline. While it has been possible to accurately collect emissions data for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, we have had to base Scope 3 emissions on a number of assumptions. For instance, for category 6 “business travel” an average car was used and the mileage travelled was taken from the expenses payments processed.  For Category 7 “employee commuting” an average journey was used.

Going forward we aim to get staff to complete a survey on commuting habits, including distances travelled, method of conveyance and details of any vehicles used. Furthermore, Swiis is in the process of upgrading the expense processing system so that it is able to collect data more accurately going forward. We are confident that this will give a more robust emissions total for both Categories 6 and 7.

It must be noted that the year ended September 2021 was heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic giving rise to greatly reduced Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. As such it may be required to produce a new base line in 2022 or 2023 to give an accurate position from where to calculate reductions from.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

This is Swiis’ first calculated carbon footprint. Swiis aims to reduce its emissions to net Zero by 2045. Once the 2022 report has been produced giving a better understanding of our overall carbon footprint we will set interim targets to ensure that sufficient progress is made to the enable us meeting our target.

As a result of the reduction in travel and use of offices during the year ended September 2021 and 2022 the targets will allow for a rise into 2023 followed by a fall in emissions thereafter.

During this period, we will also work to ensure that we are improving on the accuracy of the data being reported, ensuring fewer assumptions are made and averages used.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2021 baseline.

  • fitting energy efficient LED lighting in the recently refitted office and installed PIR controls in areas of low use.
  • taken out air conditioning systems where these have been old and inefficient.
  • reduced travel for training where it is possible to carry this out online.
  • moved to a hybrid working arrangement for many staff to reduce travel requirements.
  • reused furniture where this has been possible.
  • moved to hybrid electric vehicles.

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • reviewing its property portfolio and looking at ways of consolidating our locations.
  • continuing to reduce energy consumption by switching to more efficient lighting and heating systems. This to include fitting PIRs where practicable.
  • ensuring that future company vehicles are electric vehicles.
  • exploring a salary sacrifice scheme for electric cars.
  • reviewing energy contracts with the aim to moving towards green energy.
  • engaging with our staff to help them understand and reduce their energy consumption especially where this is associated with our service.
